I SEE BY YOUR LOCATION YOU ARE A CHEETOS FAN. I LOVE CHEETOS. QUICK STORY, I GREW UP IN HOUSTON AND AT THAT TIME THE "FRITO COMPANY" WAS BASED IN HOUSTON. THEY ONLY MADE FRITOS(THE SMALL ORIGINAL KIND & CHEETOS). LATER THEY MOVED THEIR HEADQUARTERS TO DALLAS, YEARS LATER THEY MERGED  WITH THE "LAYS POTATO CHIP COMPANY" AND BECAME THE "FRITO-LAY COMPANY". I WAS BORN IN 1947 AND HAVE BEEN EATING & LOVING CHEETOS SINCE I WAS 3 YRS. OLD. TOP THAT(:-)LOL!!!

......and for WW1 veterans, the name matters a lot because of what unit they served with.  So without a name, we can give a range "$200-$500" but pinning down an actual value is impossible.

So it was flea market day today in 31 C , lots of people selling and lots of really nice finds. Couple of original dummy cig packs, part box of ex RAF stock Spark Plugs, Y-5 if that means anything to anyone. Couple of empty ration tins, lots of other items to get photographed including nice pair of U S binos, wartime poster, bklts, Dinky Toys boxed and I even picked up another bunch of old 1960's fireworks. Of course it wouldn't be the same if yet again I didn't cave in to this weird obsession of buying a wooden aircraft kit

You're welcome.  I'm sure the LI Nat'l Cemetery was indeed quite sobering.  I'm glad you when to visit the place and pay your respects to Albert.  I think the muster rolls do give you the final piece of what unit Albert was imbedded with during the invasion of Peleliu.  The last muster roll dated July 1944 indicated that he was with the Third Battalion, Eleventh Marines, First Marine Division, Fleet Marine Force.  That said, the 3rd Battalion, 11th Marines (3/11), of the 1st Marine Division, was engaged in the fighting at Peleliu during World War II.  The battalion served as an artillery unit, providing fire support for the infantry regiments throughout the campaign. The engagement at Peleliu occurred between September 15, 1944, and late November 1944.  Albert no doubt served as a forward observer for the artillery unit during the engagement.  As part of the 11th Marine Regiment, 3/11 provided crucial fire support during the amphibious assault and the subsequent grinding battle against entrenched Japanese forces. The battalion landed on D-Day (for Peleliu), September 15, 1944, and remained engaged until the 1st Marine Division was relieved by the U.S. Army's 81st Infantry Division in mid-to-late October 1944.  Artillery units like 3/11 were instrumental in saturating cave mouths and fortified Japanese positions, often firing at very close ranges to support infantry advances through the Umurbrogol mountains.     If you really want to make absolutely sure without a doubt what unit he was in when he was killed, you need to request his records from NARA or have a researcher do it for you.  As far as I know unlike Army records that were involved in "the fire", Marine records are available.  I've had Geoff at https://www.goldenarrowresearch.com/ get me records before and he's pretty reasonable and quick in getting the records back to you.  Good luck whatever you decide to do.      -- Matt

Combat! Was produced in the early 1960s and ran for 5 seasons. It followed an infantry squad from Omaha Beach on D-Day forward.  For the time, it strove for more realism that a TV budget and studio politics would permit. There was usually a weekly guest star who would cause complications for the squad. Some were overly dramatic but overall, it was and still is a pretty good hour of entertainment. While nitpickers would have a good time pointing out flaws, they did seem to make an effort to get details right. I spotted this bayonet on a promo for the show the other night.  mikie
