So, after relooking at my M-51 and your pics you can clearly see it has been worn. It's a context thing. This is beating a dead horse but if not here, where?   Here is an even more worn M-43(no cuff or edge fraying at all [but from two wars earlier] - just dirt and fading) on top of an "NOS" M-1951:   They fade pretty well. Here are some close ups of the M-51. There is zero rubbing on the edges of the pockets, under the flaps, or most easily noted, the wrinkles around seams. There is a yellowness to the lighting that is a bit confusing but you get it.       If you take the waist string on yours and straighten the fold, can you see "whiskering"? Here's a before and after stretching the string pocket - no wear:     Finally, you asked about provenance. I have none but on NOS or "dead stock" you should see evidence of manufacture - crisp edges, overstitching, some extra threads, etc.       If the horse isn't dead yet and at risk of being called pedantic I would confidently call this M-51 a NOS, "dead stock" field jacket. You have a very nice jacket indeed but it is clearly not "dead stock". Opinion? Sure, but this one still has tailors chalk markings. Shell:      Lining:   Apologies as I now feel a little foolish. These links seem very helpful and something I will use in the future. And I agree, Egedius is one of the most unique names I've heard from things I've had. The last name "Knudsen" is fairly common however, but Egedius is not.  Due to my family being previous and current curators we're big on research, history, and archival so we have a subscription to Ancestry, Fold3, etc.  But again, I will definitely be saving the links you've attached for my use in research. $100 USD? You could probably buy the same pieces at a large US militaria show for about half that. You can still find mint, unissued Bronze Stars in the cardboard shipping boxes for less than $20 each. The pendant by itself? Maybe a $5 item. The Silver Star appears to be unnumbered. While it is WWII manufacture, you will probably see these in the $50 range at shows and they don't go flying out of the cases at those prices.   Allan

Cool. Not throwing stones. The only "provenance" I can think of is garments containing cutter tags. If they are still on the garment, it was most certainly not issue-worn or worn out that way. Not sure if I've seen VN era garments with those but it was common in WWII. Pic indeed can be deceiving. The jacket appears a bit faded to me but it may be the lighting. If actually unworn I assume it hasn't been handled so much that the wrinkles at the drawstring show fading. Again, like the snaps, maybe it's just the lighting. Few of us have handled an actual NOS jacket like this(not that it is uber rare). They are quite dark and a bit stiff when new and fade to a happy point pretty quickly. Is that a pic of the hood?  You could make some comparisons with the hood, under the pocket flaps, etc. Those will often show the overall wear but if laundered even once those areas fade as well.  When I return from the gym, I'll post some pics of an M-51 and an M-43 and we can compare notes. I'm not trying to knock down - this is what the hobby is often about and is fun and educational for all if we have an open mind. Dave
