The question came from me posting about winning this uniform. I am wondering if it is possible that the Moran book is not incorrect about this and MCWR did wear an identical iniform for a short period. Women Marines did wear Navy utilities in the 70s. Maybe the same sort of thing.   I was sent photos from a book that show both versions of the WAC.    There are stamps on the one I won with five characters. They start wirh a number. Pic attached vs the letter A that was mentioned above.    Additionally, Anne Lents designed uniforms WAC and MCWR. Maybe it was identical but wirh a different serial number.    Thanks all for helping to get to the bottom of this!

Sharing this painted 28th Infantry division WWII helmet to see what you think. I believe the paint to be original WWII period applied. Thoughts ?       Background - I purchased this helmet in the late 90s. It came with Lt bars, crossed riffles and 28th Inf Div pins attached to the webbing of the liner. It is a McCord manufactured swivel loop. Heat lot 998C which I believe is mid‑1944. The liner is a Firestone F3 code and its also painted the same as the pot. The webbing is OD and the two front sweat bands have unfortunately rusted through  the helmet webbing.   

This is the survey map from 1869. The version I down loaded is massive and too large of a file to post. I think this might work. The resolution is not as good, it gives you an idea.

Perhaps @Kurt. I haven't seen this particular patch called out as a Patch King variety, but maybe? The well known patch King version of the Marine Polar bear has a royal blue in color backing. 

Embroidered on felt patches with cheesecloth backing are typically 1940’s “Patch King” collector patches. 

To be clear, I think yours is a real patch. Having said that, according to basically the only reference I can find on these, the author types it as a “type 8” and states he has never seen a right facing version of this style. He adds that they are possibly a US made variation sold as a souvenir by vendors who didnt realize that the patch was worn on both sides. Hope that helps.   Also I just noticed it looks like all this posted under someone else’s thread. Sorry, perhaps the mods can separate the question ion the Polar bar patch to a separate discussion?
