I recently obtained an odd looking 1st Army that peaked my interest. The insert area for branch colors was completely black. After obtaining and checking it was legit and not altered , did some research. Checking the references for branch colors determined it was for the Chaplain service. Have not seen an example in any reference or even for sale and even existing. Could be in same rarity and value as the armor, aviation or finance versions. Is this a new discovery? -

I’m not liking what I see. Biggest red flag for me is that QM tags were never sewn in the collar area. -

What strikes me as suspicious is that, even though it’s deadstock, there are no noticeable signs of aging in the fabric or the ink. The pants appear to be part of a production batch dated January 16th 1952... -

Recently found this odd looking patch and after obtaining believe it to be for chaplain. Checked the branch color charts and confirmed that color is black. Note also only issued for officers. Have not seen this example shown anywhere in any reference. Could be valued to be worth more than armor, aviation or finance examples. -

The valley the fort sits in on the bluffs is vast and it is in situ. The town of Fort Mojave is actually a city in the desert and is only several miles east from the fort. When I came looking for the fort the younger people had no idea what I was asking about. The 1860's survey map shows the locations of the homes around the fort, the footprints of those sites still exist. The ranchero's south of the fort are gone. They are viewed on google earth as crop circles. -

I’ll also add I don’t know about the authenticity of the item. Here’s some other examples I’ve seen. -

It’s a 1st marine brigade Iceland patch I believe. The insignia originally came from the British 49th west riding division and was adopted by marines of the 1st brigade. -

On the survey map it shows two roads leading you out of the Fort with the names of the places they take you to. This old topo map has the locations of those places, but they do not show under those names in modern maps.
