A 42nd Division one, though they tend to wear the Pocket Patch above the Tape in this division, unit could be the 1st Squadron 101st Cavalry or the 1st Battalion 142nd Armor pre 1975, 142nd Armor redesignated 242nd Infantry, can't find what armor unit replaced it oddly. -

What type of plane was your father on, that is if he was on a plane? Lt Col Rice was on a B-29 first and then a B-47. -

Thanks. The tail fin and liner were my favorites from today. I should take a picture of the few bombs and tailfins I have sometime. -

Here's a first. A EM, wearing the Branch Unassigned Collar Disc, one John J Semsey, says entered the Army in May 1942, draftee or enlisted is not mentioned still wearing the Black tie we see, photo then taken some time in 1942. and may be a Basic portrait, wearing the Branch Unassigned at this stage. Semsey was 33 when he started basic, and whether or not he was initially non infantry, he certainly would be down the line, as he is KIA at 36 years of age in the 78th Infantry Division's 310th Infantry as a Staff Sergeant in Germany April 1945. -

Another Engineer from same unit as Post #1159, here with a very wide mesh net of uncertain origin, maybe a vehicle net note the Hawley Liner, most uncommon for this late date of March 1945. -

You'll be wanting an M7, try to find a Milpar marked bayonet though other contracts exist along with an M8a1 scabbard. -

In 1968, the US Army primarily used the M7 Bayonet for the M16 rifle. Introduced in 1964 alongside the M16 during the Vietnam War, the M7 was a spear-point bayonet and fighting knife that featured a distinctively large muzzle ring to fit around the M16's barrel and flash suppressor.
