Here's a first.   A EM, wearing the Branch Unassigned Collar Disc, one John J Semsey, says entered the Army in May 1942, draftee or enlisted is not mentioned  still wearing the Black tie we see, photo then taken some time in 1942. and may be a Basic portrait, wearing the Branch Unassigned at this stage. Semsey was 33 when he started basic, and whether or not he was initially non infantry, he certainly would be down the line, as he is KIA at 36 years of age in the 78th Infantry Division's 310th Infantry as a Staff Sergeant in Germany April 1945.

Another Engineer from same unit as Post #1159, here with a very wide mesh net  of uncertain origin, maybe a vehicle net note the Hawley Liner, most uncommon for this late date of March 1945.

You'll be wanting an M7, try to find a Milpar marked bayonet though other contracts exist along with an M8a1 scabbard.

In 1968, the US Army primarily used the M7 Bayonet for the M16 rifle. Introduced in 1964 alongside the M16 during the Vietnam War, the M7 was a spear-point bayonet and fighting knife that featured a distinctively large muzzle ring to fit around the M16's barrel and flash suppressor.

From 9/34th Armor or 4/5th Cavalry, 94th Infantry Division, in its final days as a combat unit, 1959-1963.  Sadly the name was cut out of the old tape.

Just added the tab for the handle, used an old split pin as a “button” to secure it

. Carentan decorations for 82nd anniversary year.   Things are happening all around Normandy especially in Carentan,  here is a display of over two thousand flags at the town side of Purple Hear Lane which basically runs down from Deadman's Corner museum into the town.  At this end of the lane is where the famous Colonel Cole bayonet charge happened.    I spent half the day helping out at the Longest yarn display, I saw empty wall space in the building and suggested that some shelves were added to display the sales items which help to fund the veterans charities the Longest Yarn supports.   We ran out of time to totally fill the shelves today but that will be done in the next few days.   Johan called in to see us while he was in Carentan, and purchased a pack of the ' Jeep ' Christmas cards, and laughed saying I would probably be getting one back addressed to me at Christmas.                          Norman D. Landing, Forum Normandy Correspondent, 31 May  2O26.   ..
