USN / USS Saint Paul CA-73, "Fighting Saints". Japanese-made Penguin. The ship was commissioned in 1945 and decommissioned in 1971.  Any ideas about a more precise date?

My understanding is that for the past several years during the Global War On Terrorism, when elements of a stateside unit are deployed into an area for service in which a combat patch would be authorized, in certain circumstances they wear the SSI of their stateside headquarters as a combat patch. I have seen many photographs where National Guard state headquarters SSI were worn as a combat patch.   I posted this in this topic several years ago, but my favorite that I have personally seen, and have posted pictures of in this topic, is the Military District Of Washington with HONOR GUARD tab. Obviously service in Washington, D.C. doesn't count, but one company of the 1st Battalion 3rd Infantry, which is primarily a ceremonial unit that guards the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and does other ceremonial functions in the D.C. area but is also a deployable infantry unit, did in fact deploy to Djibouti in 2003-2004. I have heard others in this forum mention that they have seen soldiers wearing the Infantry School and Field Artillery SSI as combat patches. I would love to see examples of those.

If these were "issue," they have the least amount of markings that I have ever seen. What you have is a pair of leather gloves. They are NOT specifically "airborne" as there is no such thing as "airborne gloves."  The ones that everyone wants were being made before the army ever had parachute forces. If you want to put them on a mannequin, then go ahead. Just be aware that they are what they are, a pair of leather gloves.   Allan

Hello everyone. I came across this m67 2qt canteen and had to pick it up. The date is 1966. I have tried to do some research on 1966 dated 2qt canteens, but have not found much. From my understanding, the first  contracts for the 2qt canteen were awarded at the end of 1966. The earliest date on a 2qt canteen I have personally seen is 1967. Does anyone have any information on this canteen? Would this be government issue or a civilian commercial item? The rubber is soft and flexible like you would typically see from earlier dated 2qt canteens

I think they look good. Could've had the zippers replaced at some point. 

Spotted whilst down in Saundersfoot this weekend. I saw another of these ( or maybe same one ) for sale at an antiques fair a few weeks back but didn't take a photo at the time.

Good afternoon all,   I have a little piece of history I found buried in the depths of a surplus store. Other than the deployment handle and log books missing, everything else is intact in one form or another. I have tried to do some extensive research on the origins and/or destination of this chute. Based on the manufacturer information, I have made some phone calls to the current iteration of the company to see if they have any manufacturing logs dating back that far. Beyond that, I know the functional basics and history of the chute and style due to my hobbies jumping with the Airborne Demo Team. We know Google can’t necessarily be trusted or scrutinized with some of its answers, but it was mentioned that the original company NAFI produced specifically for the 101st, but I don’t see any regular indications like regiment initials to indicate that.    If anyone can get me further information on this I would greatly appreciate it!
