No sword...that is what makes this a hard one to pin down. I know from metal insignia, that Meyer used many different logos over the years. The logo with the name written like this in the cross of the shield appears to be used in the 1940s on insignia. -

I picked this USN Mark 2 up locally last week at an on-line auction. I scrutinized it very closely with M.H. Cole’s Book III (p. 87) before bidding because it looks like it just came off the assembly line, but it looks legit to me. If it’s not, break it to me gently. Although it’s probably one of the most common WWII knives, based on its condition, I had to bid. Makes you wonder where knives in this condition have hid out since the war. -
