I just picked up an unusual Josten Senior Pilot wing. Additional feather details have been added to the shoulders and the inner rows of feathers. The upper wings are a normal Josten wing for comparison. I think the additional details make it look more like a pre-war pattern wing than the late/post-war wing it really is. -

“Staff Sergeant Ronald Burns Reynolds was KIA 8 May 1969 during a combat operation in Thau Thien Provence, South Vietnam. He was serving with Company L, 75th Rangers, 101st Airborne Division. Prior to that he had served with the 101st Pathfinders in South Vietnam and prominent in the book Pathfinders First In-Last Out by Richard Burns. He was from Dallas, Texas and listed on the Vietnam Wall at Panel W25, Line 21. His Callsign was Sniper Check . His awards: Combat Infantry Badge, Basic Parachute Badge, Pathfinder Badge, Purple Heart, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Service Medal.” -

True for the Ground troops but I expect it was a little different based off a Navy Carrier you don bring the diary with you its back aboard ship like the Pilot Log book. -
