That's really interesting. I've gone through Sawicki's Tank Battalions and Stanton's Order of Battle and can't find anything armor related with 328. And just out of curiousity I looked at the 2nd AD for anything 38 related and came up empty. -

And, not only used for pilots (per another response). Used to refer to any aviation personnel on flight status who are currently physically unable to fly. -
