Seems like someone made a boo boo.     

I just saw this on our favorite auction site. I wonder how many they will sell?  

I have recently found one of my grandfather's OG 507s (I think) and has this patch on the sleeve. I don't know what unit it is so if anyone can help identify it, I would be much obliged.

I like it! Looks way better than mine? How’s the fabric on the outside? How’d you get it all flush with light wrinkles?

Excuse the shonky photos, just got home from a long shift. I’ll take some fancy ones once I’ve done a bit of tidying up on this and done a little more to suit how I’d like it. Here goes though 

Also, on the note of wear, this cover was WELL protected when It was found, it was stuffed inside of a plastic container or a cardboard box, with the helmet on top of the rolled up cover. So this kind of wear is definitely not from bugs as they would not have eaten or the elements would not have weathered it around the rim like it did when it was rolled up like that. Thus I’m pretty sure it was natural older wear. The tips of the tipped area’s are also sun bleached giving evidence for use like that.

I have been following this topic for a few days, I thought I would throw in my two cents. I know all about over speculating. Don't beat yourself up like I have in the past. It just shows how much you care about the history of the helmet. You are probably the first person to show any genuine interest in it in 50 years. All of the team work here shows that there is a tight knit network of people who care about it as well. It's amazing that this individual has been brought "back to life" in a sense. As I am sure you all know, the Native American experience in American wars is often as heroic as it is heartbreaking. I have no doubt that the helmet was cast aside in some dark corner for 50 years. Just an observation on the helmet itself, depending on the location in NM, a lot of the wear and tear could be due to dry conditions and/or insects. I have no doubt that the graffiti and name is genuine on the Mitchell cover and band.  I believe you have a real piece of history. For what it's worth I also believe that this helmet is in good hands, I can tell that you genuinely care.
