Sweet! Great pieces of history. I have yet to appraise it. I know Engineer and Communication banners that are unsigned go for 8k+, so I'm sure this is up there a good bit. I can't wait until the framing is complete. -

Ok, an LST, is a ship. Are you talking about landing craft, (LCVP, LCM, LCT, etc)? If so, the correct term for the “Driver”, is “Coxswain”. This is not to be confused with the rate of “Coxswain”, (CoX), which would be one BM3, after 1948. If so, they generally, were (in modern terms, BM 3 or BM2). However, they could be Seaman also. Additionally, the “Bow Hook”, ( or deck hand), usually Seaman Second or First Class, The Boat Engineer, (Fireman Second or First Class), and Boat Signalman, anywhere from Seaman Second to PO2), were also trained to drive the boat. This was because after the boat is put into the water, it may spend hours driving around in circles in the Assembly circles, before being called along side to load. Then hours circling in the Wave Forming Circles. This way, everyone takes a turn at the when and no one gets exhausted. As for your original question about a guy completes all his training in May ‘44, could he have made the landing at Normandy? Maybe. I’d say chances were slim. Those ships and crews had been training for months. He may get sent in a replacement for some one who got sick or injured, but he would have a better chance of going to a newly formed unit to train together as a cohesive unit. -

I’ve looked and looked and bought two patches to include this from the seller and never found an answer. Seller has a ton of old stock of this. -

I would suggest that if you are going to buy one that you look for one that doesn't have an embroidery flaw, but that is just me. Allan -
