This undated photograph shows Steamer Mohave and Barge No. 3 at Fort Mohave. The host of the site dates the photo between 1870-79.

Hello. This was my grandfather and I'm wondering how you came to posses his cap?   I'm one of the five grandchildren and our family is very close and am positive none of us sold it.  The only thing I can think of is when he was at home in hospice in Louisiana there were people coming and going that we didn't know.  I know for a fact he wouldn't have sold it and my 94 year old mother Alice (his daughter) would give anything to have that hat back as she adored him.   Thanks for the suggestion btw. I really appreciate it.

I like the one with the home made sheath.  Also, I didn’t know that the Navy version didn’t include the awl.

These are ones left after buying and selling a bunch.  There are three Camillus knives in a big safe, dated 1949, 1957, and 1962, plus several more awaiting repair.  These here include 2 WW2 Navy knives with pen knife blades instead of awls, and one with two can openers and no awl.

There is a section here titled "Family Search and Returns", maybe others too. You should review that series of threads to see the thousands of ways artifacts leave family hands. You could also check with your family and if they sold off his military items. Good luck.

OK, the 43 FMS was part of the 43 Bomb Wing as you suspected. The other two look Japan made, one for the 374 Troop Carrier Wing (Heavy) and the other for the 374 Flight Line Maintenance Sq. Both look 1950s era. Really cool you have his stuff.   Randy

Let's back-track to World War II; Matthew was the executor of his neighbor's estate and had a few items left, including a nice 1976 history of the 94th Infantry Division...Technician 4th Class Philip Mitchell served with the Headquarters Battery, 356th Artillery Battalion, 94th Infantry Division in France, Germany and the Battle of the Bulge. The leather folder, which many soldiers were given or purchased, contains all of his military service documents.  Sadly, who knows where his luger is now????   ...and so it goes...   Mark sends
