Hi Ken, great to see these! A rare survivor in Normandy. Here is a photo of its contents. Many thanks for thinking of me. I haven't got to that museum yet.... Cheers Graham

Since my grandfather was Coastal Artillery…I’m favoring the patch….looks like the mice enjoyed the tunic/jacket….and made a nice warm nest out of the wool.   Not sure if there is any more physical mouse evidence ..I would salvage for pieces based upon possible “mouse evidence” and health.

Honestly, I’d make it into a wounded solider missing his arm as an aid station display or something, it’s kinda cool.

Anyone know what the BGS Collar Disc stands for? I’m stumped!

Very nice Utica M4.  Your bayonet was made before February 1945 based on the tapered pins in the latch plate.   You are correct that Utica used their own latch plate early on for their M4 which had the dimple. Not sure when they went to the Standard Products latch plate.   The leather grip is not a very early grip.  The first type of grips used on all the M4s were made by using alternating 2 large and one small leather washers. Your M4 leather was made by cutting the grooves.   The first contract for the Utica M4 bayonet was  8/11/44, so your bayonet was made sometime after that date and before 2/45.   The pic shows a CASE M4 with the early grips. The early Utica grips will look similar. Marv

Run the photo of that name with different filters on your computer. You should be able to get it to pop.

It's hard to say 100%, but it looks (at first blush) to be NS Meyer restrikes, where they have replaced the pin and hinge with more "appropriate" findings.  The original (such as they were) restrikes used an un-cammed pin and a hinge that allowed the pin to open up 180 degrees.  In later iterations, scam artists (knowing this was the kiss of death for making an expensive sale) started replacing the pins/hinges on the restrikes with other findings from less valuable vintage wings that only open 90 degrees.  It appears to me that both of your wings have had their findings replaced (the metal under the hinge and catch seems to be discolored--a classic sign of resoldering and replacement/repair).    The other "tell" on NS Meyer wings is the larger font STERLING.  You can theoretically "fix" the pin tell, but fixing the font tell is much harder.  Both of your wings have the large STERLING font size that I always associate with restrikes.   Remember these restrikes have been around for decades and may have really great patina and wear. And with anything NS Meyer, there will be as many opinions as "experts".   A visit to Bob's site or a search of this forum for NS Meyer wings (including balloon and airship ratings) will find pretty good threads and discussions.   I hate to say definitive YES OR NO on vintage, but I would probably tread very carefully around these as they do give me heartburn.   Just my thoughts P

Don't know. They may have been made for a printing press rather than a die to strike insignia.  Our resident die-expert, Heath, should know.

I finished cleaning it off. There is what looks  like a name written  in pencil inside.  The seventh letter looks the same as the third letter. It didn't  show up in the picture. Doesn't  make much sense. Who knows when it was written in there. I will take pictures outside tomorrow.
