. Too much to see, do, take part and enjoy . . . . . . . So today a b inch of us local vehicle owners assembled at the square in Ste Marie du Mont, when we left there I was asked to lead the group past several of the local places and describe what events happened there. So we did the Band of Brothers monument near Brecourt manor, from there we went to the Fourcaville German POW camp where 40,000 Germans were retained to help clear all the area and the minefields etc. Then I led them to the Marmion farm where the famous photograph of paratroopers holding a captured German swastika flag was taken. As we arrived so did three vehicles from Switzerland and all the occupants dressed up as paratroopers and entered the grounds of the farm to take the image shown below, as displaying a Swastika flag is illegal in France and several other European countries so they used this other similar flag. Then this evening we drove into Ste Mere Eglise and joined the throng of other vehicle owners, re-enactors and serving soldiers of Nato allied countries which had completed parachute drops today. The rain starts and again and gradually people began to disperse. As I sit here indoors typing this post the noise of the rainfall outside is highly evident indoors. We have continued driving around as per normal in the rain today with the screen down, I had two insults thrown at me today, first was a statement that I hadn't been expected to turn-up this morning at the square in Ste Marie du Mont with the rain. Then when the Jeep was sat there on display alongside all the others and there were many endearing comments passed to me from various enthusiasts the wife of one of the enthusiasts threw a comment at me which I took as very offensive she suggested I wash the Jeep. My grandson was born June 7th four years ago, the family surname is DAY so if he had been born on the 6th we jokingly said he would be christened Daniel Day which would have abbreviated to D-Day, but as he was born the 7th we now jokingly call him D+1 . . . . . . . . . . Norman D. Landing, Forum Normandy Correspondent, June 06 2O25. ( 81st anniversary of D-Day 1944 ) …. -

I didn't think Eisenhower had a purple heart medal awarded to him. I think this could be a lot larger pool of colonels based on the awards -

I sent a bunch of my excess D-Day related patches with a friend who was going over to the general location so that he could sell them to the area vendors. He had been successful at selling some of his patches a year earlier. A medium zip lock baggie of patches made some good money! I wonder how much they were resold for and if they were sold as "D-day worn". On a related note, if a patch has traces of being sewn to something, it does not mean it was on a uniform! I bought over 20 Tank Destroyer patches that had been sewn onto a wool blanket. The patches were new/unused when they were sewn on to the blanket by the lady who I bought them from. I could have sold them all as "WWII uniform worn patches" and who/how would you prove it. -

Yes I’ve had them in different colors like white and grey, it’s a typical 1940s hard hat. I wonder if they were used in the CCC?
