Blitz67, thank you! I get your point, about foreign saddles being on this side of the pond LOL! Robinb, your tag is Jeff. Q.M.I. Depot...mine does not have the I....does anyone know the difference? I haven't found anything online about that either. Does anyone know if the extended cantle for the bedroll was a standard feature on any issued saddles? I do question if mine is a M-1917 model, the leather is very supple, I have kept it up since getting it, but its in super good shape if it is that old. -

Prior assignment must have been 2nd Armored Division. Removed the patch and moved the CIB up. Looks terrible. You’d think a LTC would spring for a new $8 fatigue shirt after transferring. -

There will, most likely, be silver smith markings somewhere on the flask. If you can find them, it will answer your question. -

Ended up getting my hands on this recently, a completely sealed and intact case of M9A1 gas masks dating back to the korean war. Usually you see the individual cans for sale, fully intact crates are near unheard of -

The patch looks round in the picture, but that could be because it was theatre made. -BC -

Technology has made a big leap in that area too. Last year I traveled to Thailand and Vietnam and while I always learn a few words and phrases of the local language by heart I was perfectly capable of conversating with people that literally didn't speak a work of English with the help of Google Translate. While I remember that 'in the beginning' this app gave some funny results, it has now been perfected to a level it can handle normal conversations without any issue. All you have to do is download the required language pack before you leave on a trip, you don't even have to type as it will work with voice input and can give a voice output too. It was the first time I used this and I was impressed. It is usually greatly appreciated though if you can say things like 'Hello', 'Goodbye' and 'Thank you' in the local language without help on an app though 🙂 -

Robin - I feel like I have had or seen every shade of blue in the USN M1 world as I have been collecting them for awhile. Funnily enough I have never owned one that is this shade of blue LOL. I like it. Certainly looks like an USN lid. The ones I have are all a shade of Navy Blue or a lighter Grayish Blue. I have had Teal and Maroon. Red of course. But never this one. Vibe check tells me it is a Navy but later on … even after Korea. Vietnam or 80s. Z
