If you had read down on the find a grave you would have noticed two people left comments. -

I doubt it’s a specific marine rebuild and I’m thinking more along the lines of a sporterized 03’ That when it was cut down, they just left everything as is. I have heard that marines that participated in shooting competitions on behalf of the corp were authorized to have done modifications, but I’m not sure to this extent. Simone more firearms centers would probably know more on that topic -

I don't have anyone else to suggest (I would have recommended Tom Nardi based on the experience of online friends), but do not beat yourself up over this. The odds are there was long standing internal damage that finally gave way. Yes, we are custodians to these pieces of history, but as the owner of multiple older houses (1929, 1912, and 1870)...things break and you have to fix them. So deep breath and don't blame yourself! No, they really aren't. Both brooches are slot brooches. They look a little different because they are taken at different angles by the camera, but they are both undoubtedly slot brooches. You can see that the top one was once the same silver color that the one below shows quite nicely. Both have a "hook" catch as opposed to an open catch like you might find on an army wrap brooch. Checked it, he was not married, couldn’t find anything. And his daughter, I was just imagining things, he only had a son, the only way I knew they were related to was because Our guy was on the finds grave for his son. So finding next of kin that would know enough about him is out of the picture. -

I was thinking of doing that, but I looked at the form, and it looks pretty complicated. Plus I might not know all the info.and even if I did J Donny have the adobe software to type it out on. I’ll check again, but I don’t think I can do either. -

I forgot about that with the new system. That’s on me, sorry about that. I think you can submit paper copies and not have to go through the that process. The ID.me is for viewing online results -

I recently purchased this “new to me” 1903 Springfield at a relatively low cost, since the stock has been cut down. However I noticed that it doesn’t seem to have the same modifications that other spotter versions have, and my gun smith confirmed that all of the hardware is present and hasn’t been sporterized, but made a comment about the rifle being “parkerized.” I saw a couple of previous topics mentioning that some rifles were rebuilt by the Marines staring in the late 30s. Do I have a possible Marine rebuild rifle?
