My Uncle, probably my closest relative outside of my immediate family, supposedly lied about his age and entered the Army during WW2.     He was always so patient, kind and fun with me but he really didn’t care to discuss his service experience with me as a young boy.  He would say a few generic things when I asked and then very gently change the subject. He went back into the service during the Korean conflict.    Sadly, we lost him in January of 2006 and I really miss him to this day.   I do not know if this is even true because I got this from my very old (at the time) and somewhat confused Grandmother but she said he served in combat somewhere near Cebu in the Philippines during WW2.   I apologize for the family history lesson but the real purpose of my note here today is to ask if anyone can give me information regarding the patches on his sleeve, particularly the circular one near the top of his shoulder.   Please know I would appreciate any and all information you may be able to provide.  It will help me understand what he went through a bit better.   All the best and Thank you!

Thank you for the correction on Btry "H" meaning.  I appreciate it.  What's kind of weird is when I was using Ancestry.com to pull up Muster Rolls on Germain the latest dated one in there was the 31 July 1944 one.  I'm using free access to Ancestry through my local library system.  You're probably using a paid subscription if I had to guess.  If so, that makes me kind of wonder if the free access library one I'm using is a throttled version of the paid subscription one.  I'm going to continue using the free access one but I may not get the total records on somebody that I should.  This is not the first time I've come across that kind of situation with the library version.  Very strange.  Take care.  Matt

2LT Germain is shown on the September 1944 Muster Rolls for the Third Battalion, Eleventh Marines, First Marine Division as KIA:           He is shown as a member of Btry "H" - the "H" does not mean howitzer; it is the letter designation for a specific battery in the unit.  See other letter identifications as shown on the July Muster Roll.       Muster Rolls and excerpts from ancestry.com - rolls image quality marginal     Larry

I'd delete the thread if I could. I keep thinking this board is an information repository and I tried to contribute.

Excellent work Lars!   I've not built a Rye Field kit yet, how did you like it?    In any case, looking forward to seeing your Paladin all painted up and weathered. 😁   Joe
