Thanks for posting this! Stumbled it while researching a velvet bringback from another Sergeant in Company D

Could not find anything too interesting for storage units. Though I've noticed a lot of storage unit auctions with full duffle bags like this.

Very nice piece. I am curious, can you get a picture posted of the shell casing headstamp?

Not really, but I was surprised that this wing sold for such a high amount, while it is common knowledge that they are fakes.

I picked this off eBay a week ago, perusing the “Newly Listed” section in Military Knives.  The BIN price was very good for a WW2 pocket knife, and when I saw the blade assortment I noticed that instead of the awl, it had the small pen knife blade.  This knife was identified on these boards as most likely a Navy variant of the steel pocket knife, made for evaluation probably in 1944.  This is the second one of these I’ve found, in much better shape than the first one.  I don’t know how many of these were made: I believe Dustin has posted quite a few documents on the development of these knives in WW2. It has the brass spaces and the blades retain much of their bluing.  The main blade shows very little sharpening and there are no markings anywhere. Comments are welcome.

Welcome to the forum! Although I’m not a expert on medals and generally don’t focus on them, I’m sure there’s plenty of people who know a lot on this forum that can help you

Going back to the submarine insignia thread, I’m fairly convinced that Imperial wasn’t a producer of insignia.  I think it was H-Hs non-precious metal product line, similar to their Viking product line for uniform trappings.  And analogous to Meyer, which had MeyerPlate, Myrgold, MeyerMetal etc as distinct product lines.     So dating based on the Imperial mark seems pretty dubious.

My father was 3rd Army, 5th Infantry, 19th FAB.  He served from Dec 39 to July 45.  He was a Tech 4th Class. He was a forward observer and was awarded the Silver Star.  I have most of the medals he earned.  He passed away in 1998.  I want to make sure that he received everything he earned.  From what I've read he was not eligible for the CIB since he was assigned to an artillery unit even though he was with the infantry his entire time in Europe.  My first question is he was awarded a Certificate of Merit for "for distinctive service in connection with operations against the enemy from 13 July 44 to 20 October 44 in France."  I've heard that this certificate could be upgraded to a medal.  Does anyone know if that is possible?  Any info would be appreciated.   Ken Pillion
