      Yes. "Camp Funston Kans."

I acquired this a while back and have only now had a chance to look it over. The shell is a fixed bale, front seam with very nice paint. But I'm not an expert in M1s and the heat stamp is unfamiliar to me. I can see the "S" clearly. I see numbers to the right of the S. But above the S I can see either a "C A" or "6 A" - My eyes aren't what they used to be (see photos). Can anyone help me date rhis based on those stamps? Is that a common configuration? The helmet came with a Hawley liner. Thank you for any help.

I was fortunate to acquire a wonderful PC insignia group that a friend acquired right outta the woods, Insignia belonged to a Lt (later captain) Carley M. Pope , luckily his watch fab wasn’t lost otherwise we would have never known who he was, found him listed on the roster in 1909 as a 2nd LT, he was buried in Arlington in 1934. not much else i’ve been able to find but this is fresh into my collection today. enjoy    Fritz

This surfaced at a family member's estate some years ago in Charlevoix, Michigan. Named to Leroy F. Gerard. The group includes his jacket (named tag in pocket) and his visor cap. Additionally, a page from a photo album that has a 3x5 of Gerard by a plane and, on the back side, 4 smaller pictures two of which are in Brest, France. So far, no luck researching him, but I'm just getting started. On the tag with his name I also see very faint inked markings that look like "CO. H Rosenthal Camp Funston, Kans." Maybe younger eyes than mine can confirm that.
