All these Embroidered on Tapes are private purchase, whether the early White ones or the later OD Tapes, these are not Issue Items of insignia, back in the days before computerized sewing machines, these where made with the old Hand Guided Sewing Machines, thus accounting for the myriad of styles in size or letters and fonts of letter in making these. Tapes like these were made Army Wide at Post PX Tailor departments, both the post Main PX or the PX Annexes found located around the post, or for our purposes, at civilian tailors overseas during the Vietnam War/Cold War. -

Great pictures, I learned about that engagement while trying to find out more about the artist that drew the F4U. Still stumped on the artist but I believe that it is depicting Captain Fernando Soto Henriquez of the Honduran Air Force. He downed 2 Salvadoran Corsairs and a Cavalier Mustang in one day. -

Very interesting. So it was up to the individual soldiers to have extras or repairs made? I assumed they were just issued to the troops by the government & would all be standardized. Thank you Capt. Confederacy! -

Well it doesn't look like any of our members have one of these. So next request. Do any of you happen to have any 1940's Smilo catalogs? I saw that a 1949 Smilo catalog had sold at some time, but I don't know if it included any military insignia or sweetheart pieces. -

Very nice 10th bullion theater made patch. Matches almost exact the one I have on an Ike jacket in an extensive grouping I have from a Navigator on a B-24. Nice grouping, I hope you fill in the holes on the research. -

. Donation from my collection to the SAS museum UK. About six years ago I donated a government sealed pattern for the 1964 Stay-Bright SAS cap badge to the SAS museum, I was pleased last week to see it included in a new publication from the SAS archives covering SAS insignia. A few more photos for this brand; civil oil can, the base is very hard to read: G P & F MILW WIS, the 1944 1 QT canteen, and the USAF Strata blue painted 1951 Water can with stamping under the handle. Cheers, Armygas -

. Film night last week. Last week while visiting my daughter and new grandchild Aurelia I sat with my daughter and her husband and we watched a new film called ' War Machine' featuring Alan Ritchson and Dennis Quaid, for about three quarters of the film a wounded soldier is moved around on a modern extract litter. I sat mildly amused as except for being wounded, when I was sixteen I did a mountain rescue course and I won the tee-shirt as I was that body, moved around on a mountain stretcher and lowered down rock faces etc strapped into the stretcher to prevent flailing arms and legs whilst being lowered. I pulled up an old photo of me in the stretcher to show my daughter and son-in-law. Norman D. Landing, Forum Normandy Correspondent, 14 April 2O26. .. -
