I love good WW2 portraits! Antique store find yesterday. Nice Aircrew wings and American Defense ribbon. The way the names are written, I think the AAF member is Elvie Gooch. Anyone know anything about this airman? OR.. if his brother served, Wayne Gooch, and their histories?

Germantown seen that vicious fight for the Chew House in Germantown October 4, 1777, , the summer residence of prominent Pennsylvanian and Philadelphian Benjamin Chew British troops from the 40th Foot as well as troops from a composite Light Infantry unit barricaded themselves in the Chew House, with the Americans blasting  it first with artillery, then launching frontal assaults one after the other by the 3rd New Jersey, heavy causalities  for the Americans were incurred, but they just couldn't dislodge the British, a handful of Americans got into the house at certain points but were apparently killed off.  The American attacks gave way in the face of this, and they withdrew, suffering 57 killed and dozens of wounded. The British incredibly suffered way less in killed and wounded during all this.   American artist Howard Pyle captures the carnage in this 1898 painting.

I have two types of this wing with such a "smooth" back. Smooth - most wings with a hollow back have sharp edges at the hollow; these have a rounder edge. Both have the same hinge and catch. One has "Sterling" stamped in, and the other has raised letters.

I know I need a rucksack, but what else do I need to improve my impression? I know I need some pocket filler.

Yes.  BPCL 265-44 was signed on September 14, 1944 which replaced the block “PT” distinguishing mark with that shoulder patch.  It was for enlisted personnel regularly attached to motor torpedo boat squadrons. Enlisted personnel of the motor torpedo boat squadrons are considered to be those who have been designated as qualified to serve in motor torpedo boats and who are assigned to motor torpedo boat duty.” Personnel who were assigned to base components or tenders were not authorized to wear this insignia unless they were qualified and authorized to wear it from a previous assignment. Although you may see some examples in white with blue sewing, the white one was not an authorized version.

The pile is in my building. To many things. Found some good things. I will drag out some other women's uniforms tomorrow.

Whoa, yokota57, quite nice. Frankly, the only butane lighter I have from Vietnam came from a survival kit. But, look at you, you’ve got a whole collection there!   I’m out of likes but I’ll catch up with SonofNamVet, Oldcoolc, and you tomorrow!

Poking around the internet, I found the website for the Battleship New Jersey Museum.    https://battleshipnewjersey.org/   Among other things on the site, there is a gift shop where I couldn’t resist picking up a few things.  I have a far less than battleship sized budget so I only picked up a couple of deck plugs and a couple of bolts. I actually only ordered one plug, but they shipped me an extra freebie one. I like freebies 😁. Turnaround for my order was under a week.    Anyway, check out and enjoy the website. And stop off at the gift shop while you are there.    mikie

I have a standard dress blue WW2 era jumper with that patch on the shoulder. As far as I know they were standard for PT boat crews.
