Group,   Below are a couple of Smith & Wesson Military & Police, 5 screw variation, pre-model 10's that were issued to the United States Marine Corps.  They are often called "Victory Officer's Model" because the manual the USMC issued to maintain them designates them this way to differentiate from the Victory Models that were still in use.    First up is a West Coast USMC issued revolver, serial number C234550, shipped to Barstow, California on June 11, 1953 prior to the end of hostilities in the Korean War on July 27, 1953.  You will see this revolver does not have any U.S. markings and was only discovered because the previous owner sent in for a factory letter.

I'm confused about which strap you're referring to. Are you talking about the straps on my shelter half?

I see the less embossed matt finish buttons on enlisted jackets and I see the deeply embossed, often gilded buttons on the officers jackets. Was that just a cheap versus fancy choice or were officer buttons meant to be the nicer, gilded, embossed ones and enlisted meant to have the less embossed, matt finish ones?

It's a bit like those small "WW2"-style "US" tool bags/toiletry bags you see at militaria fairs/shops. Or those US Army rucksacks sold by Chinese sellers on Ebay. At least the copies of the Jungle packs look a bit like the USMC packs.  Somebody's making money of those things. And I don't like it!

I have since 2019 added more examples. I believe a " reference " post with pictures would reduce the many " what do I have? " artillery shell questions that many post. It would be a few day project and if enough interest is expressed I am willing to take on the job.   What can the Moderators do to help in setting this up? We used to have a Reference section, I can no longer find it.

I had posted a thread on US artillery identification back in 2019, with pictures and official designations ( M numbers) of most artillery types from 37mm to 120mm. It was handy in identifying shells and a good guide for people's finds. I can repost if there is enough interest.
