In my Chrome/Google browser AI is now answering searches by default on everything I seem to search for so it was a pure accident that I started using AI. The answers show as "AI Overview" and then allow you to to continue the conversation and probe deeper into whatever subject you raise. I've been very impressed by it. For non digitised information that it can't access it suggests and points you to a likely source such as a museum, library or organisation that would hold the archived paper records of what you are looking for. -

I guess the electronics was for heating, since American goggles in WW2 are more prone to fogging than some other models. The British Mark VIII goggles were preferred for that and the improved field of vision. Here's Jimmy Thach wearing them. -

Most of the 511 patches that you find were worn on the shoulder rather than as pocket patches. All of the units of the 11th Airborne Division had unit specific patches that were worn on the right shoulder. When the patches are oversized, then that is an indication that they were worn as a pocket patch. If the patch looks like it could have been worn on the shoulder, that is probably where it was worn. I recently bought this 38th Cavalry Regiment helmet liner. It's in a pretty rough shape and the chinstrap is missing. The webbing has the 1950s OD color and the helmet is double stamped; Westinghouse and Capac. Dous anyone know what unit insignia is on the front of the helmet? I can't find any similar insignia.. The helmet is named and has a service number, but a quick Google Search gave zero results. Enjoy! -
