As the title says, did the USMC use the M-69 flak vest in Vietnam? If so, could you share with me your personal experiences/pictures as I'm trying to put together a Vietnam War USMC display.   Any and all information will be greatly appreciated!

I would def go with antenna pole. The cords are support ropes to hold it up right. If you were in an open area you put up two poles and string commo wire horizontally at the top between the two poles. If you had a tall tree nearby you could use 1 pole for the same effect.  The height of a field expedient antenna and length of wire would increase the range of a radio set over the short whip like antenna.. Youd string the wire through the Gromet on the top pole section. I know a little about this stuff as I was Signal Corps before I was Infantry. The pole or poles are for if, you have nothing else to elevate the wire with.   

That is quite a nice pickup! Congratulations! I read that the US Armed forces still use field phones and wire. Makes sense!

Based on the image that you posted, it would appear that your grandfathers uniform would/should look something like this.. (Of course rank, name tape and armored division patch will be different). Once you determine what Armored division he was in, (3rd or 4th) you can replicate his. Hello Johan and earlymb,   First off apologies Johan I was out of ' likes ' so I couldn't add one to you preparations for a Normandy visit in June, I look forward to seeing it.   I saw something for each of you today . . . . . .   Visiting a local Jeeping friend he is busy rebuilding a Ford engine block to put back into his early GPW, a Ford with a Willys chassis.  We looked through his box of inlet and exhaust valves  he has brand new unused stock and also saved take out vales for emergency use if necessary   So Johan,  he had new and used Ford marked inlet valves one of which has the ' F ' on the top face and another take-out one I photographed has the letter ' F ' stamped into the underside of the head, this is also marked ' IN ' for Inlet valve   And something for you earlymb, he has valves with ' Overland ' cast into the underside of the valve head, this one also has ' EX ' cast into the head Exhaust          Norman D.
