Was that rear “lid” a later custom job? I thought GI jeeps had solid tubs. -

My first thought on these was Army Corps of Engineers, the civilian origination that maintains inland waterways and flood control then I came to the bullion one and I am not so sure, but something to look into. -

According to Wikipedia and the 19th Engineer website they were never an Armored Engineer unit and mostly amphibious early on but always carried the Combat Engineer name. They were at times attached to the 1st Armored Div but never organic to it. This may be some sort of reunion patch from those attaches times. Also remember Worthpoint only repeats what someone trying to sell something says about it, they don't fact check. -

Probably a rack number. Protective mask were usually checked in and out of a central storage area to keep people from playing with them and damaging them. -

Theory: Robbins accidentally used coin silver for a small batch? My initial thinking upon seeing these was the purpose was to obliterate a Robbins hallmark (Robbins wholesaling their product to other retailers), but agree that this appears to have been an obliteration of the sterling mark. Clearly a genuine badge. Quite mysterious! Warm regards. Chris -
