I assume it is Japanese. With that said my daughter-in-law is Japanese. If you take a clearer photo of the writing I can ask her to translate it for you. -

Hello all! New to the forum and newer to collecting such hens teeth as SOG knives. But wanted to officially post now with a couple new editions to myself that I am so happy to own and will cherish because of who they came from! 6" sterile fat guard bought from Gary Clinton at a show and 7" 'Japan Sword' Recon bought from Jason Hardy that is featured in Mike Silvey's book. Thanks for your time! -

There really are some interesting stories. I am going to try to put a list together of the American recipients (that I can find). I'll post it when I'm finished. The 5th-9th classes are actually more interesting. Many of the higher grades are USMC officers who went to China after VJ Day and dealt with repatriating Japanese troops or were there for messiness with Communists in 45-46. -

Western Cartridge Co. was given a contract for M80 (7.62 Ball) in 1960, starting with lot WCC6000. Without an actual copy of SB9-AMM4 for that time period, my best guess is your lot number falls within the 1960-1962 time frame, based on the quantity of M80 produced during the Vietnam War. Hope this helps. -

If I remember correctly there were also military advisors to the film and he may have had a short cameo appearance without his name being mentioned in the film credits as one of the USMC military advisors. Just my thoughts Leigh -
