I was in Coast Guard “A” school in 1989. Everyday we students had to do a pyro locker and armory inventory. I think we had about 30 of these in the small arms locker, all WWII issue. -

Yes this is true that’s one reason there are aircraft displayed at gates and on bases. The tags were stolen before they were shipped to the boneyard, no tag, no aircraft. I know the HH-52 Guardian at the Coast Guard base in Elizabeth Cory had its tag stolen and the bone yard wouldn’t take it so they made it a front gate display
