If I had to guess I'd say that holster was custom made for Jean L Jones.  

This patch has been floating around for awhile and collectors thought it might be some sort of post war Marine Raider unit.  Then there was an identification of a US Army 704th Petroleum Distribution Company.  However collector's said wait a minute it say battalion not company on the patch.  So this is apparently a fantasy patch that never existed.        

Hey guys, I noticed that the sword knot drawn in the picture above is structurally identical to the one I own. 

The fact that I know who that character is makes me date myself as well, so we both are in the Quick Draw McGraw Club together Ken.

That's a really nice looking holster Robin.  Looks awesome!

That's so cool. He was a doctor in the CBI. I automatically associate the CBI with pilots.

Adding a picture I found that might be a Model 1872 Mounted Artillery Officer's Saber. Actually, I don't know if there were any other sabers with this German-looking design in the US at that time.
