So there is such a thing! I'm afraid that the "scene" where I live is down to a handful of people relying on the internet. There aren't any fairs, collector's gatherings or meet-ups where one can come in to contact with buyers, sellers and other like-minded people. So how do I go about getting myself a "picker"? -

These were used by Michigan State Troops during WWII Peter. Very difficult to find info on them as Google searches get muddied with the State Police, and MSU... We have some of their items and unit histories at the museum, and somewhere we have a photo of these helmets in use by them. Scott -

I think just a "hard hat" in an OD color. With an associated history of its use, it could've been worn by anyone and anywhere a hard hat was needed. -

#7. Fri Jun 6-2025. Sorry - I erred. That is going to happen all too frequently. I mis-wrote; the "tall " building is in fact the Y M C A. on lower Broadway. And, Yes, it really is a ferris wheel atop another building. I do not actually remember ever seeing it. It was likely dismantled shortly after the war. Those of you who know cars can probably date the picture. Let us all know if you are able. Thank you, Donna -

They're out there, but very rare because they were inferior to leather in terms of durability and comfort. I've owned two maybe three. They were usually issued with low pressure liners but you sometimes see them on 3rd pattern Hawleys. One I owned was in an early high pressure liner.
