I've been having a hard time finding well written Soldier memoirs in the Pacific Theater after the 1941-1942 Philippines campaign. Most of the Pacific memoirs seem to be Marines even though most of the combat operations in the Pacific was conducted by the Army. I'm going to recommend some Marine memoirs below so maybe somebody gets something out this post if I don't.   I've read quite afew Marine memoirs from the most known ones like With The Old Breed (Pub. 1981) by Eugene Sledge who was a mortarman in K Company, 3rd Battalion, 5th Marines who fought at Peleliu and Okinawa. His memoir is based on notes he wrote in his pocket bible he kept hidden from brass.   Also Helmet For My Pillow (Pub. 1957) by Robert Leckie who was Machinegunner in H Company, 2nd Battalion, 1st Marines who fought at Guadalcanal, Cape Gloucester and Peleliu. Both these books helped form the basis to the HBO series the Pacific.   Lesser known ones that I read that are out of publication are "Marine At War" (Pub. 1961) by Russell Davis who was a combat intelligence scout, Rifleman and plans and operations sergeant in 2nd Battalion, 1st Marines who fought at Peleliu and Okinawa.   The Assault by Allen Matthews (Pub. 1947) who was a Rifleman in C Company, 1st Battalion, 25th Marines who fought at Iwo Jima from D-Day to D+11. He was evacuated with combat fatigue.  

I inherited this Kabar knife stamped USN I’m sure it’s not the original handle. Can someone please tell me what the original should look like I know I can order replacement kit from Kabar but I’ve seen two different versions. One is smooth and the other has grooves in the leather segments. Also curious if anyone has ever seen a handle like the one on my knife it seems sturdy although unsightly thanks looking forward to any input 

There's nothing wrong with that. I know guys who only collect Berlin Airlift and Cold War RAF/USAF-related items.   Also, I could be wrong and they may actually be from WWII.     P

The bolt looks like it was electro penciled to match the receiver serial. There’s a J 6 on the top flat part of the bolt. Also I can’t see any evidence of wood filler 

Hello What do I have here?  There are no markings on the barrell other than P.  The only mark i can find on the reciever is on the top of the tand behind the hammer and it is hard to decifer.  I can read a last patent date of 1874.  It has a round top receiver.  I removed the nadgard and found no serial number or marking on the barrel.  There is no marking or serial number on the bottom of the tang behind the trigger either.  The sight has a 1234 on the side.  It has a very dark bore and is rifled.  The stock is loose and I believe some of the original case hardening is still visable on the reciever. Thank you for the help and any information you can provide.
