Belleauwood Posted January 9, 2011 Share #1 Posted January 9, 2011 I've posted these under the "for sale" section, but thought they might be kinda' neet to see. I'm sure they are from the Red Barron's plane, (see RED paint) - You could be the only guy at the Show of Shows with these babies!!

benguttery Posted January 9, 2011 Share #3 Posted January 9, 2011 What size are they? They look like they weight a ton. Are they for flight or for moving an airplane around the factory floor?

The wheels are 25' in dia. They are not solid, but hollow inside the metal convex plates.

Bugme Posted January 10, 2011 Share #7 Posted January 10, 2011 Your right Dennis, I've never seen WWI airplane wheels on the forum before. What's really interesting is how many people would really know these are from a WWI airplane if they came across these at a flea market or found them in a barn? BTW, do you have a table at the SOS this year?

BTW, do you have a table at the SOS this year? They DID come from a flea market. Pictures, my boy, pictures!!! - And no - I will not be at the SOS again. We have parted ways - They have decided that my material was not up to their standards after 7 years.
Custermen Posted January 10, 2011 Share #9 Posted January 10, 2011 What size are they? They look like they weight a ton. Most of the wheels I've seen on WW1 a/c were spoked wheels that were doped with a cover. These do appear to be heavy. Think they were used on a bomber or such? IMPERIAL QUEST Posted February 16, 2011 Share #10 Posted February 16, 2011 The Red Baron's!! Holy smokes, a must have... These would go nicely with my WWI aircraft cockpit section. :naughty:
Teamski Posted February 16, 2011 Share #11 Posted February 16, 2011 I wonder which nationality they are. Looking at my books, it looks like all nations had the hole in the hub.... -Ski

Think they were used on a bomber or such? Steve I would say that I've seen more of the type pictured above but that doesn't mean you are wrong. These types of wheels where used on all types of aircraft from that era. Rob
