tractor Posted July 17, 2010 Share #3 Posted July 17, 2010 What are WWII helmets made from. I was offered one that was metal a month ago for 100 and my dad when I was a kid had a plastic one. My dad at one time had a little over 100 helmets in his collection but sold most off. He is down to 30 or so with the oldest being 1860s
DutchInfid3l Posted July 17, 2010 Share #4 Posted July 17, 2010 Very nice! You have anything else Military Fire related? I've got '60s era fire gear, no helmet yet and working on getting the proximity suit...
m1ashooter Posted July 17, 2010 Share #5 Posted July 17, 2010 I would expect a WW2 era firemans helmet to be made of leather like the firemans helmets of the time.

tractor Posted July 20, 2010 Share #8 Posted July 20, 2010 M1 helmets in the 40s where made of various materials not just leather. Dutch we have several patches, fittings and nozzles that are from the military. I may be getting a 1939 Ford Van Pelt fire truck that may be on of Camp Roberts first engines from a local
oldfireguy Posted July 20, 2010 Share #9 Posted July 20, 2010 Aluminum, plastic, and fiberglass were pretty common materials for helmets.
