rvandehoef Posted July 14, 2010 Share #1 Posted July 14, 2010 My latest acquisition from Ebay: Just a common manual, but nicely ID'd on front to: Supply Sergeant Cecil Z. Wisler, 16th Field Artillery, Battery B. Pretty cool item by itself, but there's more to the story!
rvandehoef Posted July 14, 2010 Author Share #2 Posted July 14, 2010 As I said, there's more to the story, because I bought Sgt Wislers' uniform a year ago! What a coincidence! I was very pleased to be able to reunite his manual with his uniform! Here's a photo of his (Canadian made) tunic:
rvandehoef Posted July 14, 2010 Author Share #3 Posted July 14, 2010 A close-up of his dogtags. Great to see that Sergeant Wisler got promoted to Supply Sergeant!

Bugme Posted July 14, 2010 Share #5 Posted July 14, 2010 A close-up of his dogtags. Great to see that Sergeant Wisler got promoted to Supply Sergeant! Nice provenanced 4th ID grouping. Glad you were able to put the parts back together!
rvandehoef Posted July 14, 2010 Author Share #6 Posted July 14, 2010 And his large Ivy patch: I did some basic research on Sgt Wisler. Here's what I found about him so far. Mr. Wisler was born 16 Feb 1895, and passed away on 21 Nov 1981. He lived most of his life in La Crosse, Wisconsin. Hope you all enjoy the story as much as I did (and still do!!!). MAW Posted July 15, 2010 Share #8 Posted July 15, 2010 Congrats on finding the manual. Any idea why/how he earned 3 OS stripes as part of the 4th?
rvandehoef Posted July 15, 2010 Author Share #9 Posted July 15, 2010 Congrats on finding the manual. Any idea why/how he earned 3 OS stripes as part of the 4th? My best guess is that he was with the 4th on occupational duty in Germany till mid 1919 and thereafter till end 1919 with the 3rd Army. I have another documented & ID'd 4th uniform with 3 OS bars, so it did happen occasionally.
