bazelot Posted September 25, 2014 Author Share #802 Posted September 25, 2014 Last week was a GREAT week in terms of helmet purchases. This setup is fantastic. It is a M-450 flight helmet with TC66 earcups secured with heavy leather. There is also oxygen snaps added which makes it all the more desirable. I only saw 2 setups with leather secured TC66 earcups and i have the other one in my collection. On this helmet the work done is excellent and whoever did it actually used a thin leather trim to hold the leather earcup in place instead of attaching the cups directly to the helmet. bazelot Posted October 18, 2014 Author Share #809 Posted October 18, 2014 I just got those 2 helmets named to Ensign James Patrick Tiffin a VC-70 pilot who saw action in the Pacific from November 44 to the end of the war. He was particularly active in June, July and August '45 with strikes against the Japanese home islands. The helmets were both heavily used. They came with a custom made aluminium notepad and a M-442A jacket. The jacket came with an original VC-70 patch and pictures. I got everything directly from the family. The escort carrier VC-70 was on (USS Salamaua CVE-96) was the first to enter Tokyo Bay in August 45. Helmet #1: M-450 with red TC66 earcups held with chamois

bazelot Posted October 25, 2014 Author Share #818 Posted October 25, 2014 Better pics of the browless Tiffin AN6542. It is well used and I am convinced this is the one he wore in combat. In the VC-70 squadron book almost all pilots are wearing the browless AN6542 in the cockpit of their FM2s
