Hi guys,

Does anyone know when this liner would have been painted like this? The decals are to the 102nd Division and 6th Infantry Regiment. I've never seen a paint scheme like this though, any ideas? The Lt. bar is silver and is a screw back. The liner itself is a WWII CAPAC, the sweatband is dated 1953, and the nape strap is dated 1955.

The impression I got was that this is from post-WWII occupation duty.

Thanks for your thoughts,

Kyle

6th Infantry Regiment didnt serve as part of the 102nd in WWII, IIRC. On 1 May, 1946 it was redesignated the 12th Constabulary Squadron

You have your unit designations out of order.

The 6th AIB, an element of the 1st AD, was redesignated 12th Constab Sq 1 May 46 and assigned to 1st Constab Regt. The 12th Constab Sq was inactivated 20 Sept 47. The 6th AIB was converted and redesignated 6th IR (less 2nd and 3rd Bns) 10 Oct 50 and relieved of assignment to the 1st Constab Regt. 6th IR assigned to USAREUR. It never was an element of the 102nd ID at any point in its hx.

Any ideas on the paint job? I wonder what role the GI wearing it served?

It could have been from a movie................we have had many discussions on the Forum re: "authenticity" of uniforms, insignia, etc. in the movie industry.

No photos of the liner we see, but for the record, in the PENTOMIC Period the 4th Battle Group 6th Infantry served in the 102nd Infantry Division of the Army Reserve. Post 1963 ROAD till the 102nd Infantry Division in inactivated as well, with an addition unit of the 6th Infantry, the 6th Battalion 6th Infantry, both battalions are inactivated along with the division in 1965.

Redesignated 11 May 1959 as Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 4th Battle Group, 6th Infantry, withdrawn from the Regular Army, allotted to the Army Reserve, and assigned to the 102d Infantry Division (organic elements concurrently constituted)

Battle Group activated 1 June 1959 with Headquarters at St. Louis, Missouri (Headquarters and Headquarters Company concurrently consolidated with Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 407th Infantry [see ANNEX], and consolidated unit designated as Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 4th Battle Group, 6th Infantry)

Reorganized and redesignated 1 April 1963 as the 4th Battalion, 6th Infantry

Inactivated 31 December 1965 at St. Louis, Missouri
