THAT GUY

Hello all,

I'm having a hard time ID'ing the manufacturer of this wing. I've looked at several different patterns but nothing has stood out so far. I am by no means an expert. Hopefully someone out there knows what it is. Thanks in advance!

Sam

I look forward to what Patrick and Marty have to say but I don't believe this pattern has been identified. I don't think a hallmarked version has surfaced.

They are a very handsome wing and I would echo what "The Todster" said, I am not sure it has been IDed.  To me this kind of screams early war quality manufacturing before the crazy number of pilot wings were being made.  I am kind of a sucker for those pre war time period wings (although I don't think this one is actually pre war).  But those early wings made by companies, like Gemsco, Meyers, AECo, etc are very nice and usually quite similar.  You really have to look carefully and there is always a great deal of overlap

It does have some similarities to AECo and the AECo-pattern Luxenberg marked wings.  Although the dies that made this one don't seem to have been as worn down.  AECo always seems to be a "muddy" design with a lack of detail (that his one lacks).

Also the pin on the Luxenberg-marked wings do not really match the pin on this one.

But all things considered, its a really nice wing.

I agree with those above.

Never been id’ed and I would say early WWII or maybe even late 1930’s.

I have one as well and have always considered it one of the best looking designs.

Never say never, but my guess is the maker will remain unknown.

As has been said, unless one of these turns up with a hallmark we will never be able to say who made these.  Aspects of the shield remind me of AECo, but the shoulder feathers, and the frosted finish and rounded undulations of the backs remind me of some Kinney wings like my Aeronaut.  This is also one of my favorite patterns.
