I've read the thread that prompted your question (Latest Finds section by Ruckup on May the 25th) and I've been wondering about this myself. I've checked all my CIB's (some of them I believe to be of wartime vintage) and all of them sport nail head prongs. I believe there is some credence to the remark that sometimes the way they are soldered can hide the nail head. I've added some pictures that imo show this. 1st: The prong on the left doesn't appear to have a nail head while the one on the right seems to have a nail head shape. 2nd: This is a two piece CIB (actually a Expert Infantry Badge with an added wreath).
