Fratlanta Posted February 17, 2022 #1 Posted February 17, 2022 Found this helmet recently and since I am not an helmet guy, I was wondering if you could tell me how old it is m and if it is the real deal and not something that a kid painted while playing soldiers with his friends just in case you can’t see it on the pics, this is a rear seam helmet thx for your help
The Rooster Posted February 17, 2022 #2 Posted February 17, 2022 Its a nice job! it looks brushed on carefully. Do you have any close in well lit pics of the paint? Everyone on here will want to see that. As close and sharp and well lit as you can get. I like it. But I dont know. Others will have to weigh in. Looks like green buckles Korean era?

manayunkman Posted February 17, 2022 #7 Posted February 17, 2022 It’s sand. Vietnam era helmet. Paint looks good but it’s hard to be sure.
The Rooster Posted February 17, 2022 #8 Posted February 17, 2022 i thought Vietnam at first too but its got Korean war 50's era chin straps and it does not have apple green Vietnam era paint. I'd say 1950's. Unless that heat stamp is post 1950's on the shell?
dmar836 Posted February 17, 2022 #9 Posted February 17, 2022 Looks to me like a lot of chips and corrosion on the shell that is clearly covered by the insignia. The basics is that this implies that the insignia was applied after the wear and age seen elsewhere on the shell. It appears to be a recent addition IMO.

elh1311 Posted February 18, 2022 #11 Posted February 18, 2022 Korean War-era produced McCord. Looks like the original texture and paint but the paint from this era is finicky. Green hardware chinstrap is also Korean War-era. That in it's own roght is pretty cool as the green hardware is getting harder to find and is indeed desirable. As for the medic panels....eh. Like dmar836 stated, looks like they were applied later on in the helmets service life.
