jmd62 Posted September 12, 2020 #1 Posted September 12, 2020 Hey Guys, I wanted to share an early Vietnam helmet I just received. It has a Westinghouse liner stamped 100 with its leather chinstrap with United Carr rivets. Appears to have blood stains on the leather headband. The cover has a 1963 contract number. The shell chinstrap buckle has the Anchor symbol on it. Thanks for looking, James
jmd62 Posted September 12, 2020 Author #3 Posted September 12, 2020 Thanks! Sorry, I forgot to show the pic of the Headband.
Burning Hazard Posted September 12, 2020 #4 Posted September 12, 2020 Nice helmet J. I think the stuff on the sweatband may be heavy GI grease. Here is an M1 and and an M1 carbine pouch with similar staining. Pat
MattS Posted September 12, 2020 #5 Posted September 12, 2020 The straps look very fresh and incorrectly attached (webbing not doubled over and trimmed) to me. Nice P55 liner though.

MattS Posted September 13, 2020 #8 Posted September 13, 2020 There are a lot of these NOS straps out there, and they are usually doubled over before being crimped down. Here's a 1960s helmet I have to demonstrate what I mean:
jmd62 Posted September 13, 2020 Author #9 Posted September 13, 2020 I appreciate the illustration, thanks again Matt!
The Rooster Posted September 13, 2020 #10 Posted September 13, 2020 Nice with a 1963 cover! Nice score! Congrats !
