I remember these specific boots for I interned at the National Infantry Museum for a summer now three or four years ago. I didn't remember to go back at my pictures of them in light of newly acquired knowledge and...as theorized they do look like second pattern boots, fitting the timeline. Cool! Edit: I am saying 2nd pattern, because the ankle reinforcements are not only made in suede but also wider than 3rd pattern's nylon reinforcements

Does anyone know what the "01206" refers to? I have a pair that say "01209" but cannot figure out what it means. I don't think it's a NIIN or a cage code...

Red Ivan Posted August 6, 2024 #31 Posted August 6, 2024 Hello friends, just found on eBay post with second pattern desert boots for sale dated Jan 1991 and also saw a picture on Gear illustrated from N-labs dated feb 1991. So I guess second pattern is produced not since 1993 or 1992, but since the first month of 1991 https://www.ebay.com/itm/195699001770?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=oSQmjTUfQPq&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=aDSSVe9WT4e&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY
Jcoll84 Posted August 27, 2024 #32 Posted August 27, 2024 Excellent research, Ivan. I'm learning something new every day here. I didn't even know these existed; I figured the US went straight from the jungle boot/black jump boot to our penultimate Army Combat Boot. Didn't know there was a step in-between with the desert combat boot. I'll be tracking down a pair to correct my OIF impression.
