While I don't collect Sub badges, I have this one that belonged to a family member. If I recall, he was an Annapolis Grad before WWII. It is marked MYRGOLD and it is heavy. Pin only opens to about 60 degrees. After reading a bit, I saw a comment about the positioning pin. Since this is out of my area of expertise, I would like to hear from those of you who are knowledgeable on this subject. What do I have here? Thanks in advance.

Great Sub badge...they are usually early with the positioning pin. I believe they stopped using them because they damaged the uniform more than they helped.

Thanks. Is the MYRGOLD a makers hallmark or a type of metal?

I think that is a Meyer mark. Maybe something to the effect of Meyer Gold..

That makes sense, but not having seen that mark before I was not sure that it was an NS Meyer brand. Thanks.

From what I've read, it's a Meyer mark that combines the process/quality of the gilt finish.

 

The Meyers with horizontal hook are not easy to find these days as they are a desirable variant. Great badge!
