While I don't collect Sub badges, I have this one that belonged to a family member. If I recall, he was an Annapolis Grad before WWII. It is marked MYRGOLD and it is heavy. Pin only opens to about 60 degrees. After reading a bit, I saw a comment about the positioning pin. Since this is out of my area of expertise, I would like to hear from those of you who are knowledgeable on this subject. What do I have here? Thanks in advance.

From what I've read, it's a Meyer mark that combines the process/quality of the gilt finish.

 

The Meyers with horizontal hook are not easy to find these days as they are a desirable variant. Great badge!

Nice early Myer badge, lovely detail too, congratulations and thanks for your family member's service,

any chance of telling of his service?

Interested in US Naval and Marine aviation history, aircrew wings & insignia.

WW2 US Navy and Marine Grumman Wildcat, Avenger & Douglas SBD aircraft.

Also interested in US 5th AF in Australia.
