Leatherwringer Posted February 6, 2019 Share #1 Posted February 6, 2019 I just recently got this grouping and was hoping a member could tell me more about the skull and crossbones. It is a heavy cast piece! I am trying to find out more about the man who served and brought these items back. Thanks for any help, Andy
stratasfan Posted February 6, 2019 Share #2 Posted February 6, 2019 Seeing as how there is a Swatika pin in there, the skull and crossbones might be German, too. You might try posting this on the World forum, too! http://www.worldmilitariaforum.com/forums/
Bodes Posted February 6, 2019 Share #3 Posted February 6, 2019 Skull and crossbones looks like it may be Hussars related.....The swastika one is a party (NSDAP) pin.....Bodes
John4022 Posted February 6, 2019 Share #4 Posted February 6, 2019 The skull seems to be a variation of the "Braunschweig skull". Not 100% sure though but it looks similar in design...

Bodes Posted February 6, 2019 Share #6 Posted February 6, 2019 Will be difficult to definitively tie the item to nazi Germany....Skull and crossbones have gone back for centuries in German history....It's not a sanctioned item or would be marked accordingly...Might not even be military related, but commercially linked...Has hole in the center so was likely screwed down to something....Bodes

It is a cool piece with some nice patina...and as always, buy the item not the story!
INIMICUS Posted February 21, 2019 Share #8 Posted February 21, 2019 I think the skull badge may be imperial, either unofficial to go on a tunic sleeve or to designate service as a former member of the Deaths-Head (mounted) Hussars. also might be for one of the many paramilitary ex-soldiers' groups from the early 1920s. or as stated, non-german (brit?), tho I sort of doubt that but can't say why! doyler Posted February 21, 2019 Share #9 Posted February 21, 2019 First skull (single hole) reminds me of the ones from a crucifix/cross
