ttWW1 Posted January 9, 2017 #1 Posted January 9, 2017 I recently picked up this belt and bandage pouch set for my collection. However, I can't find any information on the belt. The leather bandage strap on the belt is marked RIA 1902, and looks to have been attached around its time of manufacture (belt is too large for it to slide off). If anyone knows any information or has suggestions on the belt, that would be appreciated.
ttWW1 Posted January 9, 2017 Author #2 Posted January 9, 2017 Here is a closeup pic of the buckle and the bandage pouch.
ttWW1 Posted January 13, 2017 Author #4 Posted January 13, 2017 Sorry for the delay, have been out of town. Attached is a closeup of the RIA 1902 markings, although they are faint.
robinb Posted January 13, 2017 #5 Posted January 13, 2017 Well, I'm stumped. It looks good but I have no idea what it's for.
doyler Posted January 13, 2017 #6 Posted January 13, 2017 Have you tried to contact the Museum at Rock Island?
ttWW1 Posted January 14, 2017 Author #7 Posted January 14, 2017 I haven't checked with the museum yet. That is a good suggestion, I will definitely do so. Thank you!
Pointedcuffs Posted January 16, 2017 #8 Posted January 16, 2017 Can you please post a pic of the back of the pouch. Thank you.
ttWW1 Posted January 17, 2017 Author #10 Posted January 17, 2017 Both requested pictures are attached.
Pointedcuffs Posted January 17, 2017 #11 Posted January 17, 2017 So does the attachment on the belt unbutton or how does the pouch attach?
ttWW1 Posted January 17, 2017 Author #12 Posted January 17, 2017 The pouch was originally sewn on but the stitching on the back has come undone and that is why the pouch is able to come off. Before that happened, it wasn't removable off the belt.
cavsaddle Posted March 25, 2017 #13 Posted March 25, 2017 I have a similar bandage pouch in my collection. It is equipped with rimmed eagle button snaps. The snaps are marked on the back with the Mills patent dates. The loop in the back is just large enough to fit the M1902 garrison belt. There are no markings on the leather so I assume it was private purchase. It is made from one piece of leather, folded and stitched. Best, George.
