mvmhm Posted August 16, 2016 #1 Posted August 16, 2016 Got a nice grouping in today from an Ohioan who served in the 97th Infantry Division in Europe, and after the German surrender was sent to Japan as part of the 1st Cavalry Division. The family kept a Japanese sword and rifle and a couple Japanese magazines. First is a roughly 2 X 2 foot Japanese flag...silk, with the meatball having bled out..... Mark sends
mvmhm Posted August 16, 2016 Author #2 Posted August 16, 2016 ...and a very nice Model 26 9mm revolver...
mvmhm Posted August 16, 2016 Author #3 Posted August 16, 2016 ...in Europe he picked up a couple noise makers....a German marked Belgian FN Model 22 and a luger. The Luger is a mix of parts...a 1921 dated barrel and a byf marked receiver....they have a holster somewhere but I don't know which gun it goes to.
mvmhm Posted August 16, 2016 Author #4 Posted August 16, 2016 ...some letters he sent wrote...the larger one is on onion skin and mentions the pistols, a shotgun, and specifically the luger.
TomP Posted August 16, 2016 #5 Posted August 16, 2016 You might already know this, but the flag is a post war occupation flag with the veteran's full name on it, with the Japanese kanji above it stating, "Certain Victory". Tom
mvmhm Posted August 16, 2016 Author #6 Posted August 16, 2016 Tom, No I didn't know that! Thanks! Mark sends
mvmhm Posted August 16, 2016 Author #7 Posted August 16, 2016 I tried to correct the part about the luger markings. It should say: ...a 1921 dated receiver and a byf marked toggle.... Mark sends
mvmhm Posted August 31, 2016 Author #9 Posted August 31, 2016 ...a few more things came in the door for this group...Luger holster with non-match spare magazine and a Unit-marked belt..... Mark sends
mvmhm Posted August 31, 2016 Author #10 Posted August 31, 2016 ..and apparently he's got a Walter PP out there somewhere..they're still going through boxes so maybe it'll turn up....here's a breakaway holster with TWO Walter marked magazines.... Mark sends
mvmhm Posted August 31, 2016 Author #12 Posted August 31, 2016 ...there's a couple other US items, but I was surprised they brought his medals in...the Vet did this himself...the extra ribbons are taped to the reverse of the frame. Mark sends
