patches Posted April 2, 2016 #1 Posted April 2, 2016 Found this foto by accident, was unaware the forces in the PI had them, thought maybe those White Wheeled Types, but not Half Tracks. What M3 type would this be by the way?
MWalsh Posted April 2, 2016 #2 Posted April 2, 2016 I am not 100% sure, but I think the National Guard units which fought until the fall of the Phillipines and the Death March had them and used then in combat. The two units that immediately come to mind would be the 194th Tank Battalion and the 192nd Tank Battalion. The 194th was from Minnesota, I think the 192nd was from the St Louis area. I don't know if they took their home state NG vehicles with them or they got them when they got called up and became regular Army units? Others here will likely know.
MWalsh Posted April 2, 2016 #3 Posted April 2, 2016 Here is a web link about the 194th which lists their TOE half tracks numbers. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/192nd_Tank_Battalion

What M3 type would this be by the way? It actually looks like an M2 (notice the hinges along the bottom edge of the armor behind the driver's door). FWIW, JAG

What M3 type would this be by the way? Provisional Tank Group of USAFFE (192nd/194th Tank Bn's, M2, M3, M3GMC(T12), Universal carriers (from a ship carrying them to Singapore for a Canadian Brigade), M3 Stuarts also https://www.benning.army.mil/library/content/Virtual/Armorpapers/BernardGeorgeL%20CPT.pdf
Linedoggie Posted April 3, 2016 #10 Posted April 3, 2016 Headlights are a sign as well. Early production M2 & M3 HT series had fender headlights Later prod had the demountable ones
