I was looking for something to watch on You Tube when I came across this video. Though, I'm sure most of you have seen this video there must be a few that haven't. On March 22, 1986 the harbor tug USS Secota (YTM 415) had just finished transferring personnel from the submarine USS Georgia off the coast of Midway Island when the tug lost power causing it to hit the Georgia. The Secota sank like a stone. (The purpose of this post is not to make light of the situation-two men lost their lives). The Secota served the US Navy from 1945 up to the time it was sunk.

I was surprised to read that the Secota had a contract crew of Sri Lankans and only the captain was even a US citizen. The death of Secota was 28 years ago yesterday, 3/22/86. Interesting analysis of what went wrong by a former Navy Senior Tugmaster BMCM on Navy Harbor Tugs.
