Allan H. Posted January 22, 2023 Share #76 Posted January 22, 2023 Patches, Martha Raye was a legend in Special Forces circles. She was revered by the officers and men of the 5th SF. She was indeed given an honorary rank of Lt Col. and was authorized to wear the green beret with orders cut stating so. When she was made a LTC, they had to "commission her" in a branch and at the time, women were not allowed in combat arms, so the decision was made to commission her in the Army Nursing Corps. Even as a big star, Martha attended unit reunions where she was always treated as SF royalty. After she passed a lot of amazing SF artifacts found their way into collectors' hands. SF experts like Jason Hardy can provide more information I am sure. Allan
patches Posted March 15, 2023 Share #77 Posted March 15, 2023 We all should know who he is. A Character Actor of many many many Movies and T.V. Shows, still with us a 94.. James Hong, was in the Army during the Korean War. At Camp Rucker in the 47th Infantry Division in 1951, as a Corporal he probably was permanent party, as this division was a training division. This one a little later sometime in 1952, note no longer wear of the lower collar discs.

patches Posted April 4, 2023 Share #80 Posted April 4, 2023 I didn't know J.D. Salinger was in WWII, but he was, 4th Infantry Division, details are a bit sketchy, one source says 12th infantry, another says 4th Counter Intelligence Corps Detachment. Salinger when the 4th Infantry Division is being shipped to England in January 1944 Maybe the B on his helmet stands for B Company, B Company 12th Infantry, and he was initially in B Company 12th Infantry on D-Day, and transferred to the 4th Counter Intelligence Corps Detachment.
