Charlie Flick Posted February 26, 2014 Share #1 Posted February 26, 2014 Doyler's recent post of his very interesting trench art reminded me of this photo. I did not want to trample on his thread so I am posting it separately here. This photo purports to show two crewmembers of the USCG Cutter Cunningham in 1935. The trench art they are holding was made by the two and was very nicely done. I don't recognize what the large center shell is, but the rifle and pistol rounds are surely .30-06 and .45 ACP. These sailors are probably long gone, but I would bet that somewhere the lamp they created lives on today in someone's home. Big Al Posted February 26, 2014 Share #2 Posted February 26, 2014 The shell looks like it might be of the kind fired from the 3"/23 caliber gun. The projectile does not look big enough to be a 5-incher.
Leatherwringer Posted February 26, 2014 Share #3 Posted February 26, 2014 What a great pic! There were (and still are) some great artists in our military!
